Mistaken Identity

What is it with Fijians? Time and time again we encounter relatives who appear to consciously choose to accidentally interchange mothers with their daughters. IT'S INSULTING. Crikey when did we become 50 plus?! In our mother's photo in her profile she's 50 (she is now 50 odd years; Not yet 60 and holding on really well for her). Our pics are of us early last year. How can a woman at 50 pass for her 30s? Heinous. They said it when we were children and they're still doing it! Sick. WTF.

An uncle just addressed our Mum as lewa, inferring that she was either one of us or another daughter of Mum's. Proposterous! This is an uncle who is a 1st cousin to our mother from our much-beloved late grandmother's mother's descendant. A grandmother whom we love and are overtly protective over, who is the eldest child of her Ratu. This uncle is the son of our grandmother's half-sister - Bu Titi (through their shared parent our late great-grandmother). We can't believe it! We don't believe in excuses and don't take too kindly to any snivellie offensive innuendos to blatant disrespect. Dou laini ni gone. Iee.

There's another one registered in here who lied he didn't recognise our Mum to further insult. You rude ingrates. Yeah we said it. Have some respect! We've sacrificed a lot for the vanua to tolerate your levels of depravity. Goodness sakes - bitter much, all these years still. Get a grip! Lotu dina please. Hiding behind God all the time.

Mum (at 50)

Ka (at 33)

Line (at 10 in Veiuto - Mrs Vunileba's class 5) standing back row 3rd from left looking away. This is when some used to say, we looked like sisters - with our Mum. SHOCK. Or they'd say, "Whose the Mum and whose the daughter?" Fijian sickos! That's a compliment?! How messed up do some of these people with this school of thought want girls to be?

When will they ever get it right? Got it wrong in our childhood. Got it wrong in our teens. Now in our 30s, with the excuse of the duration of having not seen each other. BS. We recognised him on the spot and the last time we saw him, was in 85. Ka was 9 and Line was 8.
