It’s Christmas time again and while we’re amid the joys of presents, turkey, ham, family and flashing lights we need to take a moment and remember that Christmas can be a sad, fearful and worrying time for many in the world.

Poor, sick, grieving, homeless and lonely people struggle with the whole view of happy families, eating, shopping and celebrating that is continually promoted by the adverters as the ‘norm’, in order to entice us to buy more of their goods.

It is timely to remember that some poeple don’t have the whole “happy family” thing happening, due to a significant death, family breakdown or the total lack of a family.

I can’t begin to imagine how awful it would be to spend Christmas alone, no matter the reason……………..maybe this is an opportunity for those of us who are fortunate to have loving families to invite someone along to our celebrations who would otherwise be alone…………….Just a thought!

So from me I wish you all a very Merry Christmas talk to you all in 2009………….WOW!

lol...good one OB Nasikawa....I have always associated this time of the year with family...subsequently in my later years of working and being away from home, it does get depressing even with cousins here in Melbourne. So I made a promise to myself that for every year that my folks are alive, I will be spending this time of the year with them in Fiji irrespective of where I may be...God knows it might be the last! It is an emotional time of the year and thanks LF for pointing out the fact that there are those of us who are most unfortunate...a thought will definitely be spared for them.....cheers

There was a time where I spent xmas alone. No one was there ;) Excuse ga had to work, sini kilai nobody around, lol Later in the evening, i went down along victoria parade to chow down on some bbq before i head back to my flat. Where I slept and get ready for work the next day.

Yes I don't try to make a big deal about xmas. If I had it my way, i will not celebrate it at all. Actually I don't. I don't see it's significance, purpose or point. Well I see a point and that is to just use it as a holiday to relax.

But I guess we shouldn't all think that bad about the whole world in general. We can't help everyone. We are blessed to have what we have and just be thankful for that because you are right, there are some always worse off than we are.
