You just got to hang in there. I always make sure that I do not buy or use things that I can do without. I dont need cable and I dont watch much TV. I dont waste money on cellphone cards by talking for no reason but then the charges here in Tonga are very cheap for 'top up' cards - $3,$5,$10,$20,$50. Used wisely even a $3 card can last a long time.
Our electricity is expensive but by using it wisely, not much TV and turning things off, then the monthly bill is low.
My income is from my plantation which can be good and can be low but what I use it on is the absolute necessaries - myself and my dogs:)
Sometimes its hard to get by and then sometimes I enjoy a special 'treat' for myself and the dogs - like a $1 pie from the market. But thats great for me.
I catch a lot of fish but I never sell it but just give it to families in the village especially the 'fatherless' families. You know the families where the father has said "I am just going to NZ, Australia, US, to earn some money and I will send it back to you", but they never do and they are gone forever (a'holes). But I find that in sharing I get so much more back as well. Always get invited to join someone for dinner or lunch.
I think it is in making ourselves part of the community that the community becomes part of us and we get along.
AND life is great:)
