Cap on tuition fees 'should be scrapped'

University graduates

A higher education funding review will not report until after the election

The cap on university tuition fees in England should be scrapped by the government, a think tank has said.

There are so many conflicting angles on this issue ...

Were wondering when and how soon Britain would adjust their tuition fees despite the fact that they do have the most expensive University of the world in Buckingham University. Many of the others, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and the University of London, .... et al are nothing short of being too affordable for the quality of education, despite some Universities lack of resources comparatively to the American Ivy Powerhouses, namely Harvard, Princeton and Columbia.

Tuition + Standard of Education = Quality. Perception of the modern day where a University's Endowment Fund factors in to the quality of the establishment; The no. of research labs + no. of research students + no. of Emeritus Professors on call + success of alumni + no. of donor alumnis + accreditation types + quantitative 1st percentile or no. of 1st level graduates + the learning style (free learning or capped learning) + size of campus + academic quality of student body + .... - All of which are factors in perception, of what qualifies as a University of Quality.

Knew ages back that something to this effect was imminent, considering the transition and utterances of many of British Universities who had been balking over the past 2 years ('08 and '09) regarding their distaste of the current GCE A Levels and the inequality of standards of GCE providers where Universities had been resorting to the implementation of their designed Foundation year, to reassure themselves (the establishment) that the students are indeed prepared to handle the load.

The Government disagrees - as expected :) :) and companies like UCAS are livid - understandably so.

Personally, we think the GCSE and the GCE providers are getting the brunt of the stick in this power play for the students are inadequate, in that their ill preparedness, immaturity, lack of guidance and motivation has established that many're career counselors and schools had faulted their students with misguided course combinations and advice. A mismatch of each individual student's capability to their academic programme plans.

Isn't at all surprising, when many of these school leavers only took 2 GCE A Levels and probably one or two GCE A2 Levels with maybe another one or two GCE AS Levels, equating to a total of 4 subjects depending, with extremely weak academic results at the GCSE Level, forcing the Universities to view each candidate from a mere 4 subs and incomplete at Year 12 exemplified by the GCE A2 and the GCE AS at the end of the year. To our way of thinking, halvsies don't make a whole ... Uh uh. What is to become of an incomplete scholastic candidate? Now Cambridge Pre U requires students take up to 2 subs, where the question arises whether the student will be deemed as being versatile enough for select degree programmes.

Way back in the day for us both - we knew we had to nail it - GCE A Levels results of 6 subs (minimum) to 13 subs (maximum), well aware that competition was tough and that Universities would cite the minimum of 3 relevant to course programme subs applied for with your marks for 3 subs@A*A*A* ...+ all the other requirements to bolster the applications to be approved by your first choice Uni.

The university route isn't a joke at first degree level. That is your defining moment. Where do you go from there? It's about you. You are 1: 2,000 or 1: 10,000 for the much coveted 180 seats programme. Years 10, 11 and 12 are not trippy years - so buckle down. Know what you want and where you want to go - Childish days are well over!

Tsk ... Tsk .. Tsk ...

Sometimes there are scholarships and special courses that only you might know of that can assist Pacific students in various fields of study and vocation. Become a contact with the information and help the Pacific students if you can.
