As a nation with the majority of our cultural backgrounds comprising of people of colour, we will have to insist that we recommend the following hydrating, smoothening and brightening exfoliant over dehydrating skin therapies better suited for those of European extraction.

In turn, will we share one of our favourite personal recipes.

Yasi Scrub

Ingredients:

Yasi powder

Lemon juice

Oil of your choice [We prefer mustard seed oil]

Method:

Depending on whether you are giving yourself a facial exfoliation or body exfoliation treatment (3 times a week), will determine the amount of ingredients required per mix.  Fresh mixes are favourable.

For Face:

(i)  1 heaped Tblsp yasi powder

(ii)  Lemon juice as needed to make a paste

(iii)  Oil of your preference (We tend to favour mustard seed oil for maximum effect or lemon oil or orange peel oil - all 100% pure )

Method:

(i)   Apply on clean face using 2 fingers circular motion from the neck up.

(ii)  Massage in to skin, maintaining the circular motion method.

(iii)  Once and if it starts to dry on your skin and you still wish to keep it for a longer duration, dip your fingers in to the lemon juice or the oil and continue for another 5 mins.

(iv)  If you leave it on for an hour  per treatment (3 times per week) you will find that discolourations or unevenness of tone will start to balance off within a month - max.

(v)  Wash off with warm water using your hands.  DO NOT use any abrasive item to aid in your cleansing regimen post this treatment.

Yasi Body Scrub

For Body - Neck Down

Ingredients:

Yasi powder (dependent on your body size)

Lemon juice (as needed)

Oil of choice

Method:

(i)  Combine all ingredients and repeat steps (i) - (iv) only from the neck down.

(ii) Wash off under a warm shower continuing with the circular motion to remove dried paste on body.

Follow up therapy in the shower:

Apply plain yoghurt or rosewater or a cold shower for the body and cold rinse for the face

Bula vinaka Vohailage! Isa it has been a long while since we'd used your recommended recipe. Was and still is one of our Mom's favourites :) :) This and the egg white :) :)

Agree wholeheartedly that the range of skin types of our people would suit this particular one. Hydrating, exfoliating and polishing recipe.
Tavioka Scrub

Ingredients:

Tavioka solo
Fijian oil of choice (100% pure)
Balawa pulp or weleti pulp
Ground dried weleti seeds
Lemon juice
Water (Purified water if available)

Method:

(i) Peel tavioka and cut in to squares (about an inch size) and soak in lemon water overnight
(ii) Put all contents in a food processor and pulse until it forms a rough paste
(iii) Pour in to your beauty bowl
(iv) Add oil and balawa or weleti to the mixture
(v) Now apply in a circular motion for your face (minimum of 5 mins) and your body (minimum of 15 minutes)
(vi) Dust off the dried paste from your face and body on to your treatment mat/plastic
(vii) Wash off using half a lemon as your loofah then moisturise using a heavy oil (like almond) or a body butter of choice.

This is a good scrub option for anyone who wants to attain or maintain skin smoothening, skin softening, skin polishing and skin lightening/brightening effects

** The tavioka is to be in raw form or powder form for those who are based abroad.
*** The longer you soak the tavioka in the lemon water - the more effective the treatment on your skin. PLEASE do not exceed the soaking period any longer than 4 days, otherwise it'll start to become offensive to the nose lol
