Meant to add this much earlier ...

The FDA announced new guidelines for sunscreens that clarify what really does what. But here's the bad news: All will be effective next summer 2012. Good to know, but what about today? Don't stress. Right this second, plenty of sunscreens make the cut with an SPF 30 + and broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection clearly indicated on the package. Look for ingredient combos that include these skin-savers: ecamsule (Mexoryl), oxybenzone (Parsol 1789), avobenzone, helioplex, titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Here are best bets to take you from car to pool and everywhere in between:

For Indoor Workdays or Driving: Blend on a transparent lightweight non-greasy sunscreen. Since UVA rays can penetrate glass, working near a window or driving mean nondeliberate sun exposure that can show up eventually as sun damage and wrinkles. Apply protection to tops of your hands too. And if you're using Retin-A or Renova, be sure to follow the same routine since skin sensitivity is accelerated by these prescription topical drugs.Try Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock SPF 55 ($12.99) orProactiv Solution Daily Protection Plus Sunscreen SPF 30 ($39.95).

For outdoor errands: If you're running around, walking the dog, shopping, going to a flea market or an outdoor cafe for coffee, choose an SPF 30+ that's good for face and body. No cheating on overcast days because UV rays penetrate clouds even if you can't see them. Remember to do the back of your neck if you're wearing a ponytail; do chest and arms if you're in a skin-baring top and your feet if you're in sandals. TryCalifornia Baby SPF 30+ Everyday/Year-round Sunscreen Lotion ($20) orDr. T's Supergoop! SPF 30 UVA &UVB Protection Swipes ($34) or La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 Melt-In Sunscreen Milk for Face+ Body($35.50)

For beach or pool days, or playing sweaty sports: Go ahead and use a no-drip formula that sticks to water-soaked, perspiration-drenched skin without the need to towel off first – like Aveeno Active Naturals Hydrosport Sunblock Spray SPF 85 ($11.99) or Neutrogena Wet Skin Sunblock Spray SPF 50 ($10.99) or try Bull Frog Sunblock Surfer Gel Formula SPF 36($11.49). For the face, count on Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen SPF 30+ Sport ($12.49). Wear a lip balm with sunscreen alone and as a protective base under shimmery lip gloss. Without it shiny gloss can fry sensitive lip tissue just like cooking oil! Try Banana Boat Sport Performance Sunscreen Lip Balm SPF 50 ($2.79) or Hawaiian Tropic Lip Balm SPF 45 ($2.49).

For dressy outdoor events: Daytime weddings, engagement parties and bridal showers usually mean full makeup so choose an oil-free sunscreen like Lancome Bienfait UV SPF 50+Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen ($35) orChanel UV Essential Multi-Protection Daily UV Care SPF 50 ($52) as a primer. Both are designed to work well under foundation. I like to carry thebareMinerals SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen ($28) in my clutch. This mineral suncreen in a portable brush applicator adds a touch-up of sun protection as the day goes on. You'll save your skin and look polished (not sweaty or shiny) in pictures too.

Primarily for those of you who'll be enjoying the variety of the Summer Seasons Events and Activities.

Alrighty folks, could not in good conscience not share the following 2 products of the many other options of such approved and certified sun protection products, that of alternative sunscreen products, for those of you who have (extra) sensitive skin and/or those of you whose preferences are strictly within the category of "green"products only.

If any of you have your favourites, please do share, the name of product and what it is you like about it.

Have a safe in the sun Summer!!!!
