Sun Protection

First line of defence.

Eat or drink the following to protect your skin from the inside.

1. Water with lemon
2. Fruit or vegetable juices **
3. Almond nuts
4. Almond milk

** Apricots, berries (especially blackcurrants), broccoli, carrots, citrus fruits, garlic, kiwi fruit, mango, pineapple, pumpkin, red bell peppers, strawberries, sweet potatoes, watercress.

Sunscreen is a must. We don't care for the titanium dioxide ...as long as it shields our skin from damage ...lather it on.
Aftersun Exposure Treatments.

You know those days when you return from an arduous day in the sun. Despite applying the sunscreen and hydrating like crazy, and your skin still feels baked or looks baked. Immediate action is required ...hehehe. Here are some home remedies we still use from our mom and new ones we've picked up along the way.

1. Aloe Vera gel (mom)
2. Plain yoghurt
3. Milk of Magnesia (mom)
4. Emu oil
5. Ground raw oatmeal with honey and goat's milk (mom). Mix into a paste.
6. Pureed cooked sweet potato or raw ground sweet potato powder which is better. Mix with yoghurt/ emu oil.
7. Multani Mitti clay with water or witch hazel. Make into a paste.
8. Emu oil, calendula oil, body butter (Mix together and heat gently on low heat) When cooled add a few drops of tea tree oil. Excellent for blister looking sunburn.
9. Calendula Lotion. Prevents any kind of scarring.
10. Honey. Really soothes on impact. Advisable to shower first in cold water. Then apply ice block on your body before the basting your body with the honey. Another good treatment to prevent scarring.

** All are for full body application. Some will require you use a basting brush or your hands. Wash off with cold water in the shower. Do not use any abrasive tools eg sponge, brush, towel, pumice etc Avoid the bathtub for 24hrs. Heavily moisturise the body with body butters (shea, cocoa, illipe, hemp, olive or sweet almond). When in doubt use extra virgin olive oil or almond oil.
